posted on by Jennifer Sherman
A 20th anniversary livestream for the Dragon Quest Monsters spinoff game series revealed on Tuesday that a completely new game in the series is in development. The livestream confirmed that the release will be a new game and not a remake or new title in the Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker series. The new game's protagonists will be Erik and Mia (seen below) from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
The livestream also announced that the Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D Nintendo 3DS game is getting a port for smartphones. The game, titled Dragon Quest Monsters Terry no Wonderland SP (Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland SP), launched in Japan on Wednesday, November 7. For the first week of the release, the game costs 1,600 yen (about US$14), but the price will increase to 2,400 yen (about US$21) after that.
The smartphone game's various new features include auto-battles and effortless adventure, dozens of monsters for a total of more than 650, new skills, and a new El Dorado area. The game does not have real-time player battles, but it does include asynchronous battles.
The Dragon Quest Monsters series' first title, Dragon Warrior Monsters, launched for Game Boy Color in 1998. The Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D remake of the game for Nintendo 3DS debuted in 2012. The most recent game in the series, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3, launched in 2016. The expanded Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional version then launched for Nintendo 3DS in Japan in 2017.
