Kodansha Comics announced at Comic Con International in San Diego on Saturday that it will release a deluxe edition of Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 1.5, and Ghost in the Shell 2 manga in 2017, coinciding with the release of the Ghost in the Shell live-action film, which opens on March 31, 2017.
Kodansha Comics' new release will mark the first time that an English release of the series will feature right-to-left reading format, uncut with the original Japanese sound effects.
Dark Horse Comics previously released the original one-volume Ghost in the Shell manga in 2004, and then Kodansha Comics released the manga in 2009.
Dark Horse Comics released Ghost in the Shell 2 in English under the title Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface in 2005, and Kodansha Comics then released the manga in 2010.
Dark Horse Comics also released Ghost in the Shell 1.5 in English under the title Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor in 2007, and then Kodansha Comics released the manga in 2012.
Kodansha Comics also revealed that Paul Pope is drawing the cover for the company's planned Attack on Titan Anthology comic book. The book is slated to ship this fall.
