Indonesian publisher M&C! announced on Thursday that it has licensed Shiya Tōtsuki's Dr. Shiina's Wildlife Encyclopedia (Shiina-kun no Torikemo Hyakka) manga. It will publish the manga's first volume on November 18.
The manga follows a group of young college students studying to become zoologists. Ryo Shiina is a surly assistant professor who trains future zoologists. He always dreamed of being a zoology professor since he was young. Chitose is Shiina's childhood friend and an assistant professor in the Biology department who is always accompanied by African penguins. The manga follows Professor Shiina's day-to-day activities at the university and studying animals.
Tōtsuki launched the manga in Mag Garden's Comic Avarus magazine in 2010, before it moved to the Beat's online magazine in 2012. Mag Garden published the manga's seventh compiled book volume on July 14. The manga received a drama CD adaptation that starred Daisuke Ono as Shiina, and Jun Fukuyama as Chitose. The drama CD shipped in March 2014.
