This year's 14th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine will announce on Thursday that a live-action drama adaptation of Souji Shimada's Mitarai - Tantei Mitarai Kiyoshi no Jiken Kiroku (Mitarai- The Case Records of Detective Kiyoshi Mitarai) manga has been green-lit. The series, titled Tensai Tantei Mitarai ~Nankai Jiken File~ Kasa wo Oru Onna (Genius Detective Mitarai ~Difficult Case File~ The Woman Who Breaks the Umbrella), will premiere on March 7 on Fuji TV and will air on Saturdays.
The story centers on Kiyoshi Mitarai, a genius detective famous for having solved the Umezawa Incident. The series follows Mitarai and his assistant, Kazumi Ishioka, as they solve a wide array of mind-boggling mysteries.
Shimada's Mitarai - Tantei Mitarai Kiyoshi no Jiken Kiroku manga was inspired by the author's 1981 debut novel, Senseijutsu Satsujin Jiken (The Tokyo Zodiac Murders). The original novel also inspired a television drama adaptation of its own in 2007 focusing on the same case. The cast starred Hiroshi Tamaki as Kiyoshi Mitarai and Kōichi Dōmoto as Kazumi Ishioka.
