Japanese Box Office, October 4–5: 20th Drops to #7

Gekijōban Saraba Kamen Rider Den-O Final Countdown, the third movie based on live-action special-effects series Kamen Rider Den-O, opened at #2 in Japan during the October 4–5 weekend. Paco and the Magical Book, the surreal live-action fantasy film that reunites director Tetsuya Nakashima, actress Anna Tsuchiya, and other key players from the Kamikaze Girls film, dropped from #3 to #4 in its fourth weekend. The first segment of Yukihiko Tsutsumi's three-part adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga dropped from #5 to #7 in its sixth weekend at the Japanese box office.
Tomoyuki Takimoto's live-action version of Motorō Mase's Ikigami: The Ultmate Limit suspense manga (pictured at right) slipped from #6 to #8 in its second weekend. Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, Hayao Miyazaki's first feature film in nearly four years, dropped from #7 to #9 in its 12th weekend. Daikessen! Super Ultra 8 Kyōdai, Takeshi Yagi's newest entry in the Ultraman franchise, also fell from #9 to #10 in its fourth weekend. As of October 5, it had earned over 7 billion yen (about US$70 million).
