While I dropped this series after Vol 1 (not my type of story), I usually read all reviews (sometimes more for the reviewer's writing than the subject), so I was wondering what Rebecca means by "Some issues with female bodies in the art." It was a long time ago, but I don't remember anything specifically horrible about the female character designs (no humongoboobs or 20 yr old lolis).

I haven't followed the manga but I really enjoyed the anime of deadman wonderland and I appreciate your review for giving me an idea of whether the story wrapped up well enough to be worth going through it. So, thank you for that.

If this is an out of place question I apologize, but since I'm not sure about where one might get disc sales info on a series from like 6 years ago, do we know how the Deadman Wonderland anime did in Japan? I'd really love to see this story through animated but I'm not sure if it sold well enough to even dream of a continuation or reboot now that it's finished.

It bombed REALLY BADLY, getting around 600 per volume. You'll never see anymore animated.

Well, that's depressing. Guess I'll be plunking down for manga volumes. Thank you.

I had to go back to Rebecca's review of volume 1. She writes, "The biggest issue is really with Shiro's body – she wears a skintight leotard all the time, and the artist doesn't seem sure how to handle her groin. Mostly it looks like she's missing some important anatomy in favor of a concave space." Basically, it looks like she's lacking the lady tackle.

It sucked the anime stopped where it did, but partly thanks to that and because the story proved intriguing and compelling enough I had to pick up the manga, and having reached a proper definitive conclusion it was definitely worth it!

Thanks for the info. It never occurred to me that was the reason since it could be either an artistic choice (a lot simpler to draw, less sexualized, less "human," etc.) or a realistic one (most non-lingerie skin tight outfits (for both men and women) include padding/support in the appropriate places so they can be worn without underwear).

this series' ending did seem a bit abrupt but one of my personal gripes with the series is how they handled Toto's demise.

When he was first introduced he was creepy as F*** but he had a cool ability and i like his name since to me it was like he was mocking everyone else in the presence of his great power(the copy power too of course) Then when they revealed that crazy old geezer snatched his bod i was hoping in the end he'd regain his body(best case) and help beat shiro or at least regain his body to kill the bastard in his body but his defeat was just so sad. Mitsuzaki dying in the process thinking that toto could be saved(like me) was just the extra tragedy that made things worse.

Sigh well I hope the author makes his sequel work Smokin Parade not progress or end as depressingly, I mean in the first chapter the MC has his daily life wrecked with a bulldozer that can reach speeds of mach 3, not unlike how Deadman started with ganta

I think the reason the ending is rushed because the series was on hiatus for over a year. My impression is that the series was popular enough to be allowed to finish, but, like with many series, it simply wasn't enough to pull all the ideas together into something truly satisfying.

(If I recall, the very first chapter of the hiatus also announced the number of chapters left until it ended)

Considering that, I think it did a pretty decent job - even if Kondou never quite figured out how women's bodies work.

On a random note, I've noticed that Kondou draws all of his protagonists in a very similar fashion - DW, Eureka Seven, Permanent God, and Smokin' Parade all appear to have pretty much the same main character, from a design standpoint.

I haven't been keeping up with DW in awhile, but since I was one of those people who was so pissed when the volumes temporarily (for years) stopped I am obligated to continue buying the volumes to the end lol. Still, I do want to know what happens though.

well that sucks. though it did better than the anime version of claymore and it went up to 26 eps. however they did a whole lot better than btoom which bombed even worse as well as some japaneese fans stocked up as a bad crossover of SAO and battle royal.
