I find it a bit hilarious how they avoided saying in the article that Ubutaka worked on Psycho-pass 2 and opted to say that he worked on the sequel of psycho-pass.

But it makes a lot of sense that he had little to no time to write a complete script, I guess all of that carnage in the second season can be forgiven.

This is an enlightening interview and i agree with most of his points as that Sidonia does have giant writing problem, that moe´s biggest misstep is the lack of characterization and that Gonzo was the definition of mismanagement.
Chevalier d'Eon had noting to do with history btw, Fafner is just a joke (well it´s Xebec) and Ubukata has a bit of a problem with 3rd acts but i still have time for him. Well some of his manga a bit generic too but rock on Ubakata and his version of Motoko is the best one yet.
PP2 was a well done punk show, sold alright and had a fine reception outside of this site let the bitching begin. I consider Kamui his best creation yet. Man was he entertaining.

I am not trying to bitch, but I disagree with you. While I do not hate Psycho-Pass 2, it was not a good anime. The first season set the bar too high, and season 2 could not match it.

Interesting to note the tight scheduling on Psycho-pass 2.

It's starting to get pretty well known that how the animator's are scheduled has more to do with the animation quality then the actual budget of an animated film. More time equals better quality animation.

Same is probably true with writing. I remember during an interview with the Breaking Bad writers that one of the reasons the show was so well put together was that the writing-room got a ridiculous amount of lead-time (by TV standards) to plot a season. So they got to go through all the options and then plan the story to a T.

Sure, but you know what they say, "time is money"...

As to Psycho Pass 2, I haven't seen it yet, but based on what I've heard, it makes a lot of sense that it was probably pretty rushed. I wonder how differently it would have turned out if it had been given a more reasonable amount of production time. It was just so clearly shoehorned in as quickly as possible to make that money.

Tow Ubakata is an interesting fellow. I am generally amused by his work more than anything else. It seems like he tries to make stories out of things that he think are super cool or deep, but they actually just end up being silly. Mardock Scramble being one great example of that.

pps2 was not a bad anime byt itself , it was hjust a bad sequel to a good anime, if you don't care how it destroys the previous season it is actually good.

The funny thing is, most people would agree the writing in Sidonia is better than in all of his works..

Nice interview, and it's good to hear that Fafner Exodus'll be continuing in the winter, looking forward to it.

I agree, but writing has never been Nihei's strength. His stength has always been his art and the atomsphere he is able to create. I would love to see him collaborate with Yasuhiro Yoshiura as his writer.

I thought this was one of the better interviews in terms of the interviewee's openness and honesty. ANN has been on a hot streak with some great interviews lately. I hope they keep it going.

Yes. But I think that he might have spilled the beans a little earlier than he should have.

I didn't know who he was before I read this interview. I completely agree that there's way too many anime with moe characters.

I wonder what makes him think Gonzo and Gohands have similar sounds.
