To paraphrase a famous line: "Don't cry because it's over, Laugh because this whole thing started due to some guy in the late 19th century named George owing some dude a favor"

Even though the anime ended up being extremely inconsistent in terms of art/animation - it managed to be even worse than DiU in this aspect, and the fact that the Blu-rays apparently don't have any corrections doesn't help it -, I still massively enjoyed and think the story was still done justice overall.

Jolyne and the rest of the gang are still the weird goofballs that I love - special shoutout to Ai Fairouz for achieving her dream and making a damn good performance -, the Stands of this part are still some of the most out there, yet creative and some of my favorites in the entire series, Pucci is still awesome, and the ending continues to be one of my favorites in any anime/manga ever. 10 years and 100+ episodes of the JoJo anime culminating to this, and it was worth it.

So thank you Araki for creating this, and thank you Kenichi Suzuki + Toshiyuki Kato for bringing it to life.

I just hope that when the SBR anime eventually comes out - which is not going to happen until 3-4 years from now -, the schedule for the anime is much better + Naokatsu Tsuda returns to the series.

I still think Pucci and Weather report’s back story episode is one of the top 10 anime episodes this year in terms of direction, animation and characterization ; not to mention the shear depth and thought-provoking plot is simply astounding.

The reviewer doesn't understand why it is one of the least popular parts. I don't understand why it gives praise to the worst part in JOJO's.

Personally, the fact that the protagonist is female cloud the critical judgment of people.

The animation all around is in the same vein of the PART 4 QUALITY QUEEN episodes, and this seems like the final release.

The battles are the worst of JOJO's with convoluted concepts and Deus Ex machina solutions. The best battles were in PART 5, period.

The sons of DIO as battle filler is just lazy and nonsensical.

And Jolyne started as a brat and ended like a burden, trying to make her a badass in the middle.

If I have to say something positive, the motivations of Pucci were clearly the best part, being clearly defined by his power and ultimate goal.

ALSO, the Magnus Opus title goes to STEEL BALL RUN, no questions asked.

Of course, the guy who does nothing but insult it HAS to to be the SBR fanboy.

Because as we all know, no Jojo has ever been a brat at the start. Certainly not Joseph or Jotaro.

….The part where the hero gains a Deus Ex Machina upgrade for his stand that allows him to beat the villain that has a broken stand which also had convoluted powers. Let’s not even mention the Diabolus Ex Machina from Part 1 that sets up part 2 & 3.

I really appreciated Stone Ocean a lot more than I thought I would, given that I had read manga spoilers years ahead of it becoming an anime and thought I wouldn't enjoy it at all. It does have a few deficits, like inconsistent artwork/animation and as somebody mentioned, Dio's sons didn't really make a lot of sense (but then, it's JoJo, what does) and were kind of a waste (everybody was on about how cool Bohemian Rhapsody was, but I could have done without it). I could have done without the incest backstory, too. But I loved Jolyne, Ermes, Foo Fighters, Anasui, and Emporio and plenty of the enemy Stand users were cool (the second batch's Planet Waves, for instance). Pucci was an excellent main antagonist and had an interesting endgame. The finale ended up being very touching in execution. Both the Japanese and English dub casts were amazing. The music was good, too.

I definitely want to collect Stone Ocean on Blu-Ray when it comes out. But I don't even have all of Diamond is Unbreakable yet, so I have a lot more to get first.

You can't call GER a "Deus Ex Machina" when the idea that the only thing capable of defeating Diavolo would be a power within the Arrow has been directly stated multiple episodes before it happened.

As someone who watched Stone Ocean casually, without analyzing deep themes on fate & destiny, here's my take on the pros & cons of Stone Ocean:

Pro:
* Female lead, that's new
* Female lead starts out in disadvantageous position (in prison), instead of trekking across the country/world. That's also new; the lead is maneuvering inside a deadly prison instead of a deadly road trip.
* Creative uses of various Stand abilities, particularly Female lead's.

Con:
* Why, oh why, do some stands suddenly have worldwide or citywide range? There is no precedence for this in previous JoJo's. The most powerful stands in previous JoJos warped reality around them for maybe half the city (looking at Golden Wind); and that was only because they were hopped up on Golden Arrow power.
* Some of the stands powers were nonsensical: Heavy Weather's snails in particular
* The legacy of Dio rears its ugly head again? Come on, there's must be another means of making a compelling character than that; I'm referring to Pucchi. It really feels like Dio was given extra backstory to make this arc's villain. Part 2 made it seem like the heroes went after Dio shortly after Dio got his stand. Dio would not have had time to father 3 throwaway sons.
* Saying Dio had a single child is just fine (Golden Wind). Saying Dio had 3 throwaway kids for filler episodes is not.
* As someone who took seminary and was educated as a priest, Pucchi should have been 100% aware that joy comes from GOD, not Dio. He should have 100% known that heaven is through Jesus alone; it's called the small gate & narrow path for good reason. He should have 100% known that awful things happen in the world, and God paints beauty with ashes. He was working as a priest; he should have known the focus should be on Jesus, not worshipping Dio's legacy. The bible also covers on how to face the unknown by focusing on the Lord, not fears & worries. I guess Pucchi slept through ALL his lessons and never read the Good Book.
* Repetitive format of villain-a-week in some episodes, particularly some of Dio's throwaway sons.

Your problem is that the bad guy is a heretic?

Any chance of Viz getting the home release like they did with all past Parts?

I tend to find the end stretch of a Jojo season to be a drag and wishing they'd just get on with it, and Stone Ocean was no exception. Unfortunately, with the way Netflix broke up the drops, that meant it was most of this chunk. Sad

Araki's magnum opus? Did you read Steel Ball Run or Jojolion?

I would hardly call Jojolion the "Magnum Opus" considering how much questionable writing choices Araki did in it, specially in regards to the ending and how many characters got massively underutilized throughout the story. If anything, Jojolion is the one that has the ACTUAL Deux Ex Machina ending.
