The moment the Prince dumps Agnes for Lilie at such a late date, I have no problem believing that they feared for their lives and the survival of their house.
No matter what you think about their solution to the problem, at least, no blood was shed and lives ended. At least for now. As to the Prince, if he actually cared about Agnes, then why do this. He should have known what his actions meant for her and her family. Agnes and Lilie at least they make sense, and their actions can be understood. The Prince on the other hand, is all over the place. Maybe if the Prince was an evil madman, who wanted both ladies, maybe, but I don't get that vibe right now. |

The prince isn't really good at communicating his feelings. Perhaps Lillie has some kind of leverage on the prince that (for the time being) forces his hand.
