Will not finish Rating Comment
ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. (TV) Bad The art is awful, the animation stilted, the plot is nonexistant, and the characters boring. This is a bit of a problem for a show attempting to be driven by plot, characters, and stylish art. Barely got through the first episode.
Angel Beats! (TV) Not really good
Angel Links (TV) Bad Outlaw star was so good, but this... they took out the riveting plot and interesting characters, and replaced them with flat caricatures, already-outdated "quality" graphics, and magical girls with bouncy boobs.
Aquarion (TV) Bad
Arakawa Under the Bridge (TV) Decent
Aria the Animation (TV) Weak BORING!
Assassination Classroom (TV) Bad I mean, I wasn't expecting much, but its always fun to try the strange series on, even if it amounts to the expected disappointment fairly quickly.
Azumanga Daioh (TV)
BBK/BRNK (TV) Awful I wasn't even sure if it was an anime, or just a shitty video game plot shoehorned into an anime. The writing is awful, the plot is pointless, the characters 2d. I like the visuals and character design a lot though. Man is that shit beautiful. If only the rest wasn't shite.
Beelzebub (TV) Weak
Beyond the Boundary (TV) So-so Got 9 epsisodes and couldn't even finish the last 3. The pacing is off, but the first 3 episodes were decent. But the characters never developed anywhere, and the plot was full of BS contrivances and people not explaining stuff for tension, and I couldn't stand either anymore. Fight scenes are kinda cool looking though.
Black Butler (TV) Weak
Black Jack 21 (TV) Weak
Bleach (TV) Bad So, I kinda liked the first 20 or so episodes... interesting characters, a bit of plot... and then they go to the Soul Society, and it goes to hell. It becomes the worst kind of Shonen... each episode, he meets a stronger opponent, is winning for a while, and then stronger opponent unleashes "true power"; hero bleeds a lot, and is suddenly stronger and wins. Repeat ad infinitum. I managed to get to about 47 before I gave up, realizing that no, those old days of real story were not ever going to return.
Blue Gender (TV) Awful
Bodacious Space Pirates (TV) Decent
(The) Book of Bantorra (TV) So-so
Boys Over Flowers (TV) Watched like 10 min and... nah. Too old, too cheesy. Whoever suggested it was clearly a girl, and very nostalgia fueled at that.
CANAAN (TV) It was pretty good, but started getting meh halfway. I read some reviews later to see if I should pick it up, and they say the end bombed. Good enough for me.
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) Not really good
Casshern Sins (TV) Bad
A Certain Magical Index (TV) Not really good
Chiruran 1/2 (TV) Bad
Chrono Crusade (TV) So-so
Clannad (TV) Bad I REALLY hate moe. This is a popular moe series. What was I thinking?
Concrete Revolutio (TV) So-so The character designs and animations are brilliant, and I can appreciate interesting nonlinear storytelling, but there is no real substance that I can catch on to. After 3 episodes... some disconnected stuff happens? I could see it "get better", but it seems to be be in no hurry to do so, and the mediocre to poor ratings seem to indicate that this is unlikely.
D.N.Angel (TV) So-so Its too kiddie, and the protagonist is so cringy.
Den-noh Coil (TV) Good When you tried watching a show twice, and its been sitting on your "seen some, finish later" list so long you have no idea what its about, its time to move it on. Willing to watch again with a strong recommendation, but it was so slow...
Digimon Tamers (TV) Bad
Dragon Ball (TV) Not really good Better then the sequels, but still too silly and episodic.
Drifters (TV) Weak I don't care for war stories, and I don't care for the characters. But mostly, I don't care for the premise. On one side, there is the idea that history is created by certain individuals because they are special, possessing a uniqueness that drives the world around them. On the other side, there is the idea that there are inevitability in history, and that men are shaped and directed by the world around them: if they didn't do it, someone else would have done something similar, and the outcome would be the same. This show seems firmly in the first camp, while I lean towards the second. Pull people out of their time, and they should be irrelevant, not some big magically important heroes.
Dusk maiden of Amnesia (TV) Weak How did an ecchi harem anime get on my "want to watch" list anyways? Spooooooky, must have been a ghost or something.
Fafner (TV) Not really good Its a shitty NGE, but that makes it slightly better then NGE in my book. But still not good. Got to ep 5.
Fantastic Children (TV) Weak Someone came up with an idea for a long, heavy, weird fiction novel, one for only the most dedicated readers to be able to finish, filled with sad characters and dark themes. Then they make it a Anime. It is utterly boring, and only the most bored people watch it until it actually gets somewhere. That is not me.
Flag (ONA) I don't think I will ever find this...
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) Bad
Full Metal Panic! (TV) Not really good
(The) Future Diary (TV) Weak
Gabriel DropOut (TV) Bad Yet another totally forgettable seasonal comedy whose only purpose seems to be generating funny reaction gifs and such.
Garo the Animation (TV) Weak
Ghost Hound (TV) Decent
Ghost Hunt (TV) So-so
Gilgamesh (TV) Awful Story, characters, and theme are meh, but the animation is horrid, and the constant atmospheric suspense music makes we want to rip my earbuds out. ARG!
Gintama (OAV) Bad
Gosick (TV) Bad Mystery does not appeal to be. The "aesthetic" does not appeal so much that I find it somewhat offensive. I guess I probably should not have tried this show, oh well.
(The) Great Passage (TV) Weak I mean, its pretty, but it boils down to being another boring slice of life about a boring subject. I guess its kinda cool that anime is continuing its quest to make a show about every conceivable thing; in this case, making dictionaries.
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (TV) Decent
Guilty Crown (TV) Decent It was interesting enough for the first cour, if the plot was a bit annoying. Then Guy died, there was a few poinless high school episodes, and I got bored.
Gunbuster (OAV) Bad Girls without pants driving robots that do pushups to fight space aliens. I watched like 5 min before deciding this had no particularly redeeming qualities. Could reconsider if someone explains carefully how it will overcome all these painful cliches to be watchable.
Gungrave (TV) Bad
Gunslinger Girl (TV)
.hack//Legend of the Twilight (TV) Weak
.hack//Quantum (OAV) Weak
.hack//SIGN (TV) Bad
Hayate the Combat Butler (TV) Decent
Heaven's Memo Pad (TV) Not really good I cant get myself to care about NEETs or high schoolers, and mystery is not my style I think. Too slice of life-y, too much pandering to otaku. The "dark" parts felt both preachy and light on substance, and totally missed their target of hitting the "feels". It had a few good characters though, and some fairly OK plot, and I could see where it might possibly improve into something a bit more enjoyable, but I have no desire to try and push through now. Minor side note: parts of the dub were kinda sketchy and felt unprofessional or awkward.
Hell Girl (TV) Not really good
His and Her Circumstances (TV) Weak
Honey and Clover (TV) So-so
House of Five Leaves (TV) So-so
Hunter × Hunter (TV 2011) Bad I dislike the world, I dislike the art, I really don't like the dialogue writing. I can see its quirky potential, but none of the quirks work for me, so screw it.
Ikki Tousen (TV) Worst ever
Inu X Boku Secret Service (TV) Bad It was silly and fun at first, but by episode 2 it "outed" itself as trying to be serious and/or heartwarming, and for such a pandering stupid premise and 2d characters, that was clearly never gunna work. Cool character designs though I guess.
(The) irregular at magic high school (TV) Weak Well, for a shitty harem show, it had all the pieces in place to actually inspire me with hope that it might end up being good. It has an unusually strong protagonist who didn't just make you hate him, and who is plausibly likeable by the various girls. It has a somewhat dark and interesting setting. It has an interesting magic system. And finally, it has an emphasis on clever spell engineering being able to surpass raw power. Then at ep 4, they reveal that the protagonist thinks that equality is bullshit, meritocracy is obvious (even in a world with royal families), and that everyone who isn't with him is against him. But I think... maybe they can make that interesting? But they just redouble on it. The protagonist is built as an ideal, and then never advances. There is plenty of plot, but no character development. All the foreign countries are against us, all the hippies are terrorists, and everyone who is not an ally is an enemy deserving only an extrajudicial execution. When I realized around ep 20 I realized that they had no intention of telling any story beyond weird conservative circlejerking, I just gave up.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (TV) Weak
Kanokon: The Girl Who Cried Fox (TV)
Kanon (TV 2/2006) Worst ever
Kokoro Connect (TV) So-so I watched the first 7 episodes. I enjoyed the body swapping, and the writing felt... clever. But the tone turned... sappy too quickly, and the "unleashed emotions" just felt lazy and I lost interest.
Kumamiko - Girl meets Bear (TV) Not really good
Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing (TV) So-so It tries so hard to be a copy of the original Last Exile, to an annoying degree, but the characters are flat and annoying and the story even slower then the already slow story the original. Got to episode 11, (some flashback) before giving up.
Level E (TV) Weak Interesting idea, but it tried to be funny and failed, and it tried to be serious as well and failed there as well.
A Little Snow Fairy Sugar (TV) Bad It boggles the mind how a slice of life anime about faeries for young girls managed to end up on my plan to watch list.
Lucky Star (TV) Worst ever
A Lull in the Sea (TV) Weak The genera (high school drama) is not really my thing, so it starts on shaky footing. Then, when dislike every single character to some extent, it really makes me not want to watch any more. It was tight and pretty enough to get through 5 episodes, but all the characters irked me enough that I just couldn't keep going.
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (TV) Not really good The first few arcs (meeting of Aladin and Alibaba, the first tower, the horsemen tribe, and the slavers, were all pretty good, and set up an interesting and fairly unique plot. But then the main central arc kicks in, and everything goes to shit, and I totally lost interest. To make it worse. it was chock full of really forced writing and exposition, and as it started introducing the long term plot, I saw that this show wasn't going anywhere I would be interested.
Maison Ikkoku (TV) Bad
Masamune-kun's Revenge (TV) So-so I had such high hopes for it being a dramatic tragedy about a bunch of terrible people who totally deserve each other. Instead, it took that type of premise and shoehorned it into a half-assed heartwarming shoujo romcom, and I lost all interest.
Michiko & Hatchin (TV) Not really good
Momokuri (ONA) So-so Its sweet and fun and a little wacky for a few episodes, but the cutesey and creepy parts get overwhelming as well as kinda repetitive. Its fun to watch enough that you get it, but it does not seem like there is that much more that it offers. One interesting thing is the neat way it characterizes some of its side characters. Sure, they are a bit basic and cliche, but it gives them enough characterization to be interesting, and does so with surprising efficiency.
Monster (TV) So-so I like shows that go up and down a bit, and this is just dense, DENSE down.
MoonPhase (TV) Weak
My Bride is a Mermaid (TV) Weak
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU (TV) Weak Oh look a high school romantic comedy harem that cracks a couple jokes about its genera, while sticking to the cliches like a rule-book. Why do I even bother looking at this drivel...
My-HiME (TV) Not really good
Myriad Colors Phantom World (TV) Bad
Nabari no Ou (TV) So-so
Neuro - Supernatural Detective (TV) Bad
No. 6 (TV) Not really good Halfway through, both plot and characters are too weak to carry such a high brow theme and setting.
Nyaruko: Crawling with Love! (TV) Bad I was hoping for Lovecraft with a dash of harem romcom sillyness. I ended up with a particularly generic harem romcom with a few Lovecraft references sprinkled in for no apparent reason. At least the weird behavior of all the characters makes some logical sense in this one (girls are insane and don't act like real people cause they are old gods, protagonist is not attracted to them cause they are old gods... I guess?)
Oreimo (TV) Decent
Persona -trinity soul- (TV) Bad
Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ (TV) Weak
R-15 (TV) Weak Actually had some good humor... unfortunately, when it started to do a bit of plot and character development, it fell victim to all the classic ecchi bullshit. Why a erotic author would be a classic pussy MC who cant talk to women is incomprehensible, and annoys me 10 times more then usual.
RahXephon (TV) Weak
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (TV) Decent See, I don't give a shit about waifus, so when a show comes around that gets people arguing about who is "best girl" I generally steer clear: If the most interesting thing that people have to talk about is which wish fulfillment fantasy is doing the best job, then a show is probably not worth watching. The plot is thin and all over the place and full of contrivances. The setting is the most bland sort of fantasy setting. Most of the conflict is driven by stupid miscommunication. The premise is a merger "transported to another world" and "time loop" which ends up being pretty bland. Nothing about this show sells me on it enough to overlook the numerous flaws... its yet another "fairly well executed light novel adaptation which got overhyped cause people like waifus". Basically, since I couldn't care less about the core engagement, and the "dark and gritty suffering" thing does nothing for me either, I end up being unable to overlook the numerous flaws and find myself bored and uninterested where this is going and unaffected by the character beats. I got as far as ep 13 (the start of the queen selection or whatever) before putting this indefinitely on hold... maybe once it gets a dub I can have it running on a second monitor while I play a game or something.
Real Drive (TV) Not really good 3 episodes watched, and so far, no real conflict, flat characters, and a girl who is obviously placed exclusively for wish fulfillment.
Red Garden (TV) Bad
Revolutionary Girl Utena (TV) Not really good Its interesting, and not terrible by any means. It has a unique feel and aesthetic which I can certainly appreciate, but nothing really draws me in, and there is a bit of cheesyness to the forced structuring. I also get annoyed when mystery is introduced, and then totally ignored for a long time by all the characters and the anime itself.
RIN-NE (TV) Bad Not funny and not serious, with a stupid helpless female following a shonen protagonist around a generic setting. I dunno why I even use the crunchyroll random button when I have such an extensive want-to-see list that actually contains good shows.
Saiyuki Gaiden (OAV) Bad I don't get it. This is like teeny fragments of a story that is never introduced or explained.
Samurai 7 (TV) Not really good
Samurai Flamenco (TV) Decent I'm glad I watched the first cour, it was very amusing and well written. But yeah, I don't particularly care for the genera, and have no intention of finishing.
School Rumble (TV) Weak
Seiren (TV) Weak On the plus side, it has pretty good characterization of the girls, which is a massive plus in harem shows. But the protagonist is just boring male harem lead turned up to 11, and the show is so slow and boring... I just wanted a trashy harem comedy with a lot of teasing and a realistic bent, not a slice of life about cram school.
Shangri-La (TV) Bad
SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist (TV) Decent
Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars (TV) So-so
Space Dandy (TV) Its pretty funny, got through like 7 episodes, but without any serious themes or progression I just lose interest.
Speed Grapher (TV) So-so
Spice and Wolf II (TV) Decent
Star Driver (TV) Bad
(The) Story of Saiunkoku (TV) Not really good
Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry (TV) Not really good The story has promise, but the bajillions of inconstancies in internal logic are total immersion ruiners.
Tachikomatic Days (OAV) Weak
Texhnolyze (TV) Bad
Tiger & Bunny (TV) So-so Its an interesting premise for a superhero series (corporate sponsorship), but as a comedy its cringey with fairly unlikable characters, and it cant seem dedicate itself to any central theme or go anywhere.
Tokyo Ghoul (TV) So-so
Tokyo Mew Mew (TV) Bad
Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE (TV) Not really good
(The) Twelve Kingdoms (TV) Bad
Utawarerumono (TV) Weak
Wandering Son (TV) Weak Yeah, this style of slice of life (long shots of people milling about, low level drama among lots of people, etc) is just not my cup of tea at all.
WATAMOTE (TV) Not really good Funny at times, but the "cringe" humor was never my thing, and the premise can't hold it up for so long.
(The) World God Only Knows (TV) Bad
X (TV) Not really good
Xam'd: Lost Memories (ONA) So-so When I first watched this, I kinda petered out and never finished, but I had the impression that it was "cool" and i would finish it eventually. Well, coming back to Xam'd a few years later, its flaws are much more clear, and I also know exactly how I got fooled the first time around. The trick is in the OP, which is by Boom Boom Satelites, and just oozes with cool. Its one of the best OPs I have ever seen, when viewed in isolation. But its tone has nothing to do with the show. It establishes a potential which the rest of the show squanders, and even subverts and ruins. The show is a "serious" drama featuring teenagers. The pace is glacial, and the reveals of the story are basically nonexistant. The events of 90% of the episodes can be summarized in a sentence or two, and the rest is just forgettable "character development". I quote that, because for a show that seems super intent on selling itself based on personal themes and character development, it has some really awful and unbelievable characters. They just have some basic flat traits, and then respond as needed to what little plot there is, even if those responses don't line up with their (minimally) established characters at all. I am sure the awful acting in the english dub doesn't help. There is so much potential set up, but none of it goes anywhere. After 10 episodes, I know barely anything about the cool seeming steampunk/biopunk world they live in... and absolutely nothing about the motivations and goals of the fairly sizable cast. Its hard to give a shit about all the mystery if there is absolutely no hints of progress on it. On that subject, whats especially triggering for me is when characters refuse to explain things to each other. Half the drama would evaporate if they just talked it out, explained what the fuck was going on, etc. This annoys me in any show, and its what finally pushed me over the edge here; its implied that most of the characters know pretty well whats going on, but they tell the protagonist fuck all. This is a retarded and lazy way to structure storytelling. "I know things, but I cant tell you, and I can't tell you why I can't tell you.... ooooh mysteryyyy". Yeah, they can shove that mystery right up their ass, I don't care anymore.
xxxHOLiC: Kei (TV) Decent
Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches (TV) Not really good
Yozakura Quartet ~Hana no Uta~ (TV) So-so
Yugo the Negotiator (TV) Decent
Yurikuma Arashi (TV) Weak When a show is weird enough, and gives you no time or moments to get attached to any characters, it makes it impossible to care about what is going on. Ep 2 and I already don't give a shit about whatever fever dream this idea came from.
Zakuro (TV) Bad Yeah, a big pile of jap nationalism and army gung ho appeals to me exactly 0.
Zipang (TV) Weak
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei (TV) Decent
